Former Bongo Maffin lead singer, Thandiswa Mazwai will make a long awaited comeback. It’s been six years since her last album as the new album will be released on November 25, 2016 titled ‘Belede’ which is dedicated to her late mother.

During her birthday in March when she was working on the album, she spoke to The Star, saying: “I think about my mother a lot around this time”.

The album will be Mazwai’s third solo studio album, which follows on the success of her last two solo albums Zabalaza and Ibokwe. The upcoming jazz tribute, will once again remind South Africans of the legends Hugh Masekela, Dorothy Masuka, the late Miriam Makeba and Busi Mhlongo.

Mazwai further explained that she has reimagined the songs of the new album for a new space and time, even though a lot of her songs were written as rebel music against apartheid. They make sense in South Africa even in our times today as they still have the same impact.

The album will be available for pre-order on iTunes tomorrow (November 11) and her first single, Jikijela, can be downloaded on iTunes and Apple Music. Mazwai will launch ‘Belede’ at the Soweto Theatre on November 24.
