July is recognised as the month to give humility , humanity and love and take initiative in your life. It is also remembered as the month that the first black South African President, Nelson Mandela was born in .
The 18th of July is officially International Nelson Mandela Day , as declared by the United Nations in November 2009. The day was inspired by Nelson Mandela during his 90th birthday celebrations in London’s Hyde Park , when he said “It’s time for new hands to lift the burdens. It is in your hands now.”
Every year on Mandela Day people are asked, by the Nelson Mandela Foundation , to spare 67 minutes of their time to helping others, in order to inspire change and to honour Tata Madiba. He spent 67 years dedicated to making the world a better place: all that is asked of you is to spend 67 minutes each year , trying to do the same !
Nelson Mandela once said that, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.”
