Shops shut doors as Zimbabwe financial crisis deepens

Zimbabwe has plunged into its worst economic crisis in decades and a new “stabilisation programme” seems to have hastened the implosion of the economy.

Anxious that the country will soon run out of essential goods, residents flocked to the stores to stock up on anything they could lay their hands. Unfortunately, the rush to stock up drove up prices and forced stores to close because their shelves were empty. Already essentials such as water, gas and medicine are in short supply.
